I love my curly hair and try not to compromise my natural curl pattern with so much heat like I used to do in the past. When I first started exploring pinup/vintage style, I did a lot of my pinup curl hairstyles with a curling iron. It not only damaged hair from doing this so often, but I was often frustrated that the style did not last very long in my hair. When I discovered how to do vintage hair styling with a wet set technique, this was a huge game changer for me. I like the results much better than using heat. My normal hair care routine is this: I co-wash my hair with a coconut deep conditioner and give it a coconut hot oil treatment once a week. Typically, after my weekly hair care routine is the optimal time to then set my hair with pink sponge rollers, wrap it up in a sheer vintage scarf, and let it dry all day and overnight. |
The illustration above is step by step instructions on how to achieve a glamorous vintage hairstyle doing a wet set on long hair. This pattern is my go-to because it is fabulous and easy to do.
Step 1: Part clean damp hair into major sections.
Step 2: Then part hair into smaller 1 inch sections and put extra hold mousse on each section and roll into sponge roller.
Step 3: Wrap hair with a sheer vintage scarf.
Step 4: Let dry all day and night. The longer the hair the longer it takes. If you do not have the time to devote 24 hours to let your hair dry completely in the rollers, sit under a dryer. The most important thing is that it has time to dry and to set. If it is still wet when you take out the rollers, the hairstyle will not work. This is so important.
Step 5: Once completely dry from the root to the tip, unroll each section and it will reveal bouncy Shirley Temple curls that you will brush out. Brush under the curls into the shown style taking special care of the ends. Keep brushing until you see the wavy pattern style all over.
